MA Student, First Nations Studies

Richel is Ts’msyen (Tsimshian) from Gitsmḵ’eelm (Kitsumkalum) on her mother’s side, and English and Scottish on her father’s. Born and raised in Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island, Richel completed her BA in Political Science and Indigenous Studies from the University of Victoria. She is currently a Master’s student in First Nations Studies at the University of Northern British Columbia.

Richel’s research interests are based in understanding how systems of health, gender, and sexuality interact in Indigenous communities and spaces. Her thesis topic is focused on sexual health education in Indigenous communities and learning more about how sexual health programming can contribute to the holistic wellness of Indigenous communities, particularly Indigenous women and Two-Spirit people.

Richel lives gratefully on Lheidli T’enneh territory with her partner and two cats.
