Cultural Safety for Indigenous Peoples: A Determinant of Health Webinar
The National Collaborating Center for Aboriginal Health, in collaboration with Northern Health hosted a webinar on February 17, 2016 on “Cultural safety for Indigenous peoples: A determinant of health.” Dr. Sarah de Leeuw, Associate Professor with the Northern Medical Program, UNBC and a Research Associate for the National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health speaks to the topic of racism within the health care system and how it affects the services available to Indigenous peoples. Such racism subsequently becomes a barrier to the optimal health of Aboriginal peoples. 366 participants watched this presentation which highlighted the ways in which Indigenous people have expressed their realities of experiencing racism and also shared ways that healthcare professionals might engage with the arts and humanities in order to more deeply reflect on their thoughts about racism and Indigenous peoples.
