PINE: a geopoetic work about menopause and wildfires

Earlier this spring, HARC Research Director Dr Sarah de Leeuw published a new paper in the Journal of Feminist Geography. PINE: A Geopoetic Work About Menopause and Wildfires, is based on a lecture Dr de Leeuw gave last year at the Royal Geographical Society Joint Lecture for the Gender, Place and Culture, & Gender and Feminist Research Group.

PINE is a single long-poem work (3000+ words) about wildfires and menopause. This poem-paper turns on a central and extended metaphor of ‘burning times’ to consider aging, hormones, wildfires, menopause, semi-arid landscapes, northern reaches of the Sonoran Desert, pine trees, and global warming.
