Using Art to Address Biases Across the Pond

On May 22, 2025, X’staam Hana’ax (Nicole Halbauer) and Michelle Roberge gave an Anti-Bias workshop as part of the city of St. George’s University of London Open Spaces series. Open Spaces is an on-going program that brings together science, medicine, and healthcare with the arts, humanities and enterprise to bring students and staff from different disciplines together for discussion and learning.

Using two H.E.A.L. curricula, the Ghost Pipe Podcast and We Come as A Pair, Nicole lead the online group through a series of discussion points, along the way sharing lived experience and highlighting healthcare disparities resulting from colonization and colonial systems that persist in Canada. The group were often shocked by Nicole’s stories, stating they had no ideas such things happened in Canada. Michelle showed the group how to navigate HEALhealthcare.ca and the Open Spaces coordinator expressed that they were keen to request ongoing future sessions about H.E.A.L. Healthcare.
